building
foundational skills
By building strong foundational skills such as note-reading, improvisation, rhythm, technique, and music theory, musicians are empowered to go wherever their musicality takes them.
Whether this involves honing in on a specific skill for a particular goal or patiently improving skills over time, I do my best to ensure each one of my students has everything they need to understand music from the inside out and play the piano with ease and expressiveness.
creating
safe learning experiences
I believe in the importance of cultivating a lesson environment where students are always encouraged to be themselves. Learning isn’t always easy, and all students deserve to feel like they have someone there to help guide them gently through challenges instead of someone who shames them for the struggle.
A tough week of practice, or a week of no practice? No problem! We’ll work together to figure out the hurdles and get back on track.
inspiring
creativity & curiosity
When we’re encouraged to explore what intrigues or appeals to us, our relationship to learning and creating becomes exciting, positive, and memorable. Creativity begins with curiosity, and it’s because of this that I lean into longer lesson times (45 and 60 minutes) in order to make sure students have time for questions and experimentation.
I want everyone to have the opportunity to develop a strong and lasting relationship to music through the things that matter most to them.
