I’m Sarah, an artist at heart with a love for adventure and beauty in every area of her life.
Classical piano became a serious area of interest for me in middle school, and after beginning lessons it quickly became my favorite way to spend time at home. I started a teaching practice in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio, graduated with my B.A. in Music, and moved to NYC in 2021. I now have 18 years of teaching experience across hundreds of students, and reside here in Brooklyn Heights. I truly love what I do, and I’m glad that you’re here!

I BELIEVE IN…
Building strong foundations.
Music exists because emotion exists. The greatest of musicians are known by their ability to connect to, refine, and uniquely express the music that they play.
In order to fully understand these intricacies and create soulful music, we must explore the structure and heart behind it all. Foundational musical concepts such as rhythm, music theory, technique, improvisation, and note reading are taught at every one of my lessons. These elements become the foundation on which each student’s distinctive expression is built, no matter how long they have been studying for.
Creating safe spaces.
Every student deserves to learn in a space that is safe for them. In a space where they can be themselves and feel empowered. Shame and pressure have no place in my teaching practice.
I believe in empowering each student to be responsible for their own musical progress by providing all of the skills, knowledge, guidance, and support they need to become the best pianists they can be. Every student has a different reason for wanting to take lessons, which means that no two students will ever have the exact same needs. Students will always be empowered to make their own choices and set their own goals. I’m a big supporter of sustainable practice habits that accommodate the natural fluctuations
I don’t believe that shame or pressure need to be present in order for a student to do their best. I believe in letting each student determine their own journey and relationship to music, and it is an honor to be their guide.
Gone are the days of feeling pressure and disappointment from your piano teacher for not practicing or struggling to play the music. It is my promise to every student that I will embrace them for who they are and guide them through each concept with patience and understanding, encouraging them to be their best but never making them feel like they’ve fallen short.
Embracing individuality.
Methodology
After 18 years of teaching and hundreds of students passing through my doors, I’ve experienced firsthand how every person learns in their own way.
Every student deserves to leave their lesson fully understanding the music in front of them, and as their teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to take the necessary time to get to know them in order to make this possible. If a student doesn’t immediately click with a new piece of information, it’s an opportunity for me to reconstruct the idea in a different way. One that empowers them to grow into the musician that they have the ability to be. Every lesson is unique to the student in front of me.

PIANO LESSON
Offerings
-
If you or a child are interested in beginning to learn how to play the piano for the very first time, this is the perfect place to start! Most of the students that enroll with me are first time students, regardless of their age. We’ll focus on cultivating musical awareness, building a strong foundation, and growing all of the skills needed to become a confident and expressive pianist.
-
If you or a child are interested in coming back to the piano after months or years (or decades!) away, I can’t wait to help reignite the musical spark! I love that life has a way of bringing us back to the things we love. We’ll establish a starting point, fill in any missing gaps and then work to build new skills and knowledge from there.
-
If you or a child are interested in growing an existing set of musical skills, switching to a new teacher, or honing in on a particular area of study, I’d love to work with you! We’ll first take some time to talk about any desired goals and play through current material before creating a plan that allows for new growth.
